INSTALLATION / CONNECTIONS
Remote control and batteries
Placing your sound system components
Same distances
Fit the batteries to match the + and
- symbols in the compartment.
Optimal stereo position
Batteries for remote control unit are not provided.
Please protect your environment! As batteries contain certain toxic substances they pollute
the environment if not properly disposed of. Your specialised dealer will accept used batteries.
Make sure the batteries are always of the same type and age, and remove them from
the remote control if you are not using it for a long period.
Installation
Plug the provided AM antenna here.
Fit the provided FM antenna here.
Plug a device like a video recorder, TV set, or
minidisc, etc. here. Be sure to connect sockets and
plugs of the same colour.

Fit the speaker cables.
Be sure to connect the
pair of cables (for the left
and the right speaker) so
that the marked flexes
have both the same
colour (phase).

Make sure the rating of your household electricity supply matches that shown
on the back of the sound system.
Do not stack objects on top of the sound system.
Do not block the ventilation holes of the sound system.
Place the system so that air can circulate freely.
Switch devices off when connecting or disconnecting.
Do not expose the sound system to high levels of humidity and heat, to avoid the risk of fire and
electric shock.
Do not connect the sound system to the power supply if you have just moved it from a cold to a
warm environment. This can result in condensation inside the system and cause serious damage to
the machine and cassettes. Wait around two hours to allow it to reach room temperature.
Be sure you disconnect the power supply and aerial if you will not be using the system for a long
period or during a thunderstorm.
Be sure to read the precautions on page 2.

About the Power Save Mode.
After switching on your sound system the first time, the machine waits for time setting. See page 11-12 .
If power save mode is set before, power save mode is maintained after power failure.
If power save mode is set before, the machine displays "CLOCK" for a moment, and turn on PSM indicator
when connecting AC power.
The remote control is the principal means of control, but the main functions are also available on the front of the
machine.

1. To set power save mode on : During the machine is
power off status, push power button over 3 seconds. If
the machine is set to power save mode, automatically
turn to power save mode after a few seconds.
2. To set power save mode off : If the machine is set to
power save mode, push power button over 3 seconds at
power off condition.

:To start play for CD and

EQ button: This adjustment section lets you
adjust your system's sound to the music style
you are listening to such as FLAT, Jazz, Classic,
Pops and Rock (Flat means no style).
UBS button: Bass enhancement (on / off).
REC button: To start tape recording.
CLOCK button: To show the current time in the
system's display.
TIMER/SLEEP button: [SLEEP] To set the
minutes after which the system is to switch off
automatically. Press repeatedly for a time
between 90 and 10 minutes or [TIMER] To select
timer setting and to activate / deactivate timer
stand-by.

SET button: For a short pause during
recording on a tape, the CD play or to advance in
a programming (e.g. clock set).
CLEAR button: To stop play and record or to
cancel functions.

Tuning stations
FUNCTION

Programming station presets
You can store up to 30 FM / 15 AM
stations.

The system assigns a station to a
number beginning with 1, one after
another.

Select lower or higher preset numbers.
PRESET
On the machine select the tuner function and the band by pressing REPEAT/MODE/BAND button.
If you try to store a 31st FM / 16th AM station, the display will show "FULL".

To clear a preset station, select it, press / CLEAR, then / SET within 5 seconds.
You can use the MODE button of the remote control to switch back to stereo.
(RDS option only 7~8 page, only for model with RDS)
RDS
Receiving FM Stations with RDS
This unit can use the following RDS service.
RDS (Radio Data System) is a broadcasting service which a
growing number of FM stations are now providing. It allows
the FM stations to send additional signals along with their
regular program signals. For example, the stations send their
station names and information about what type of program
they broadcast, such as sports or music, etc.
Identifies each station by
a name.
PS (Programme Service name)
RT (Radio Text)
Allows the RDS station to send text
messages that appear on the display of
the unit.
When tuned to an FM station which provides the RDS
service, the RDS indicator lights up, the station frequency
(and then the station name if sent) is displayed.
PTY (Programme Type) Identifies the type of RDS
programme. This allows you to
locate a specific type name of
program being broadcast.
Not all FM stations provide RDS service, nor do all RDS
stations provide same services. If in doubt, check with local
radio stations for details on RDS services in your area.

Switching the display contents
To view RDS information on the display, press the RDS MODE key.
Each time you press the button, the display changes to show the following information.
PS (Programme Service) PTY (Programme Type) RT (Radio Text) Station frequency
Before the above information is displayed, "WAIT PS", "WAIT PTY", or "WAIT RT" may be appear
on the display.

Searching for a desired programme by PTY codes
One of the advantages of the RDS service is that you can locate a particular kind of
program by specifying the PTY codes.
The PTY Search function is applicable to preset stations only.
To search for a programme using the PTY codes, follow this procedure: Using the remote
controller
1. Press the PTY SEARCH button
"PTY" and "SELECT" appear alternately on the display.
2. Press the preset UP or DOWN button (including the one of unit) to select a PTY.

Pressing the preset UP or DOWN button to the left
Press the PTY SEARCH button again
While the search function is running, the selected program type and "SEARCH" alternate on the display.
Once the station which is broadcasting the selected PTY (Program type) is located, searching will stop.
Then the PTY will be indicated and the broadcast will commence.
If a station broadcasting a selected PTY cannot be found, "NOT" and "FOUND" are displayed just one
time alternately on the display. The unit will then return to the station to which it was tuned prior to the start
of the PTY Search.

RDS may not work correctly if the station to which you are tuned is not transmitting properly or
if the signal strength is weak.
RDS information have to be changed with only remote control unit.
If no adjustment are made in PTY Select mode, "PTY" and "SELECT" will continuously appear on the display
Perform the next step while "PTY" and "SELECT" are being displayed.
Page 7-8 is the option only for Model with RDS.

TAPE
TAPE: To play back prerecorded tapes and to record tapes.
For tape recording see page 10-11.
Playing tapes
FUNCTION
Select the TAPE function.
Start playback.
Open the tape compartment to load the
tape.
Start reverse playback (AR only)
Stop playback.
Be sure to have the open part of the
cassette downwards and the tie left
hand spool fully wound.
Close the compartment door again,
pushing it softly.

Fast rewind or advance the tape.

On the remote control select the TAPE function pressing the FUNCTION button.
For tape recording see page 10-11.
The tape counter resets to "0000" when a tape compartment is opened ("0000" need not be the
beginning of the tape).
CD
On the machine select the CD function, by pressing the FUNCTION button repeatedly.
When the disc stops the machine shows its total time.
During playback the machine shows the current track number, and the track's play time.
Please read remarks about discs on page 13.
When playing a CD-RW disc, cannot play a unfinalised CD-RW disc.
In case of playing the multi-session CD-RW disc, can play the first session only.
Discs recorded by personal computer or high speed recording may not be played (or cause
noise) according recording format.
It is recommended to record discs record as low speed as possible or using recordable CD for AUDIO.

Store the cassette in its cover.

You can protect your precious recordings from being wiped by breaking out the safety tab on the
side of the cassette.
Should you wish to re-use the tape after removing the tab, cover the hole with adhesive tape.
Timer and clock
You can set the machine to automatically switch on and off at a specified time.
Be sure the clock is set accurately.
If you want to cancel the SLEEP function, press the button till "SLEEP" disappears from the display.

APPENDIX
Before you ask a specialist
- Safety lock not removed yet?
- Load a CD with the label facing
upwards.
- No mains supply?
No CD playing
No sound
- Volume at minimum?
- Are headphones plugged in the
headphone socket?
- CD scratched, broken
deformed, ... Try with another.
- Condensation e.g. after a
transport? Wait for a while (20-30
minutes)
- CD dirty? Wipe with a soft cloth
from the centre to the outside.
- Did someone press the MUTE
button?
Noise with radio sound - Station not tuned accurately?
Tune again
- Weak FM station? Switch to mono
using MODE button.
Remote control does
not work
- Batteries fitted the wrong way?
See page 3.
- Batteries run down? Try new
ones.
- Weak AM stations? Move the AM
antenna slowly for better
reception.
- Antenna accurately fitted?
- An object is blocking the direct
line between remote control and
the system. Max distance to the
system is 4 ~ 7 m pointing to its
front.
Bad sound with tapes

- Be sure playing / recording heads
and tape guiding parts are clean,
see bottom of this page.
- Try another cassette.
- Cover the safety hole of the
cassette with adhesive tape.
- Correct source CD, tape, tuner,

Cleaning the audio heads of the tape deck
Unplug your sound system from the mains Open the tape

After playing and recording for a time the sound of the
tape recorders may become muffled. Then clean the
heads and tape guiding parts.

Only use a soft utensil with alcohol or a special head
cleaning liquid.

play a deformed, cracked, or chipped disc.
try to repair a disc with adhesive tape or
glue.
handle your discs with care. Hold a disc
with the fingers touching the edge or the
hole.
close the tray with a disc slipping out of
the guide area, or two disc inside.
scratch a disc or store it in direct sunlight,
high humidity or high temperature.
use record cleaning sprays, benzene, static
electricity liquids or any other solvent, if the
disc surface is soiled. Wipe gently with a soft,
damp (water only) cloth.
place the disc with the label facing up.
place the disc properly into the tray using
the proper guide area for 12 cm or 8 cm
discs.
replace a disc in its case after playing and
store it in a vertical position.
use a soft cloth to clean a disc if
necessary and wipe from the centre to the
outside.
wipe the disc in a circular motion, since
circular scratches are likely to occur, which
will cause noise.
write on the disc.
move the system during playback.
